Heavy timber, made in the Pacific Northwest — from the mill to your project.

TimberShield is a canopy system built on decades of Douglas Fir milling and engineered for permanence. Every structure comes from one integrated supply chain: the tree, the mill, the fabrication, the install.

Three chapters. One integrated system.

1977
The mill opens

The Pacific Northwest mill that supplies every TimberShield structure has been operating continuously since 1977 — nearly five decades of Douglas Fir specialty milling for regional builders and commercial fabricators.

2021
Washington Timber Company acquires the mill

Washington Timber Company takes ownership with a mission to bring premium Pacific Northwest Douglas Fir directly to modern architectural applications — vertically integrated from log to installed structure.

2024
TimberShield launches

TimberShield launches as the canopy system built on that mill's timber output. Signature V-leg geometry, three roof options, five standard models, and an interchangeable-parts system now in full production.

We own the supply chain.

Most timber canopy makers buy their lumber from someone else. We mill it ourselves. That means guaranteed material availability, consistent Grade #1 structural Douglas Fir, faster lead times, and lower carbon impact from the shorter supply chain — all without depending on volatile lumber markets.

The result is a canopy system that starts as a Pacific Northwest tree and ends as a stamped, engineered, IBC-compliant structure on your site — all under one roof.

Shawn Roten

Founder · Washington Timber Company · TimberShield

Shawn Roten founded Washington Timber Company in 2021 after seeing an opportunity to bring Pacific Northwest heavy timber directly to modern architectural applications. The acquisition of a mill operating continuously since 1977 gave the company something rare in the timber industry: full vertical integration from raw log to finished canopy.

In 2024, Shawn launched TimberShield as the flagship canopy system built on that mill's output — a productized approach to what has traditionally been a custom-per-project industry. Today, TimberShield structures are installed across Washington, Oregon, California, and Arizona, with over 100 canopies deployed and a new interchangeable-parts system in full production.

A more complete founder bio in Shawn's voice will be published here soon. In the meantime, reach out directly at estimates@evtimbershield.com.

Engineered for permanence.

01

Douglas Fir Timber Frame

Premium #1 structural 10×14 Douglas Fir timbers — warm, durable, and engineered to IBC standards. Sustainable and renewable. Better looking than steel and warmer too.

02

Signature V-Leg System

Two structural Douglas Fir legs, each set at 20° from vertical (40° included V-angle), meeting at a single steel base plate. Cap beam sits on top of the V — cross beams butt into it with steel hangers. Scales from single bay to 64-foot multi-bay.

03

Three Roof Options

Choose from 24-gauge Commercial Metal Roof (included), Tinted Structural Laminated Tempered Glass Roof, or Architectural Fabric Canopy with custom branding. All three engineered for Pacific Northwest snow loads and year-round all-weather use.

04

Upgrades & Add-Ons

Integrated heaters, architectural lighting, ball tray shelving, side wind screens, gutters, ball tracker mounting, and custom net setups — all designed for the system.
